Educational Success for Small Schools

Cymdeithas yr Iaith have drawn the attention of the Education Minister to the uccess of a small school of 26 children in Ceredigion. Ysgol Dihewyd have received a glowing report from Estyn.

The report stated:
"The school's partnership with parents and the community is an outstanding eature of the provision. This is a school that truly is the heart of the community."

In drawing Jane Hutt AM's attention to the report, Aled Davies of Cymdeithas yr Iaith said:
"This report shows the importance of the support of the community and the parents to a village school. The educational success of our village schools should be acknowledged and lessons should be learnt from them, rather than threaten them with closure. It is also significant that the Inspector who wrote the report on Dihewyd School was previously the Assistant Director of Education in Carmarthenshire. Since then Carmarthenshire County Council have instigated a campaign of attacking such small schools."
