Don't let the planners con the council

After receiving a knock back on their previous application for 50
houses in Pont-Tyweli, Llandysul, as it was decided by the council
planning authority that such a development would damage the local
community, the developers - Eatonfield Group, have now resubmitted an
application which Cymdeithas yr Iaith claim is an attempt to con the
council into giving them what they wanted.
Angharad Clwyd Dyfed Field Officer for Cymdeithas yr Iaith and local
resident said:
"The developers are trying to con the council by saying that they are
developing only 31 houses now but all they have done is to leave out
the so-called affordable housing. Their layout plans show that 29 of
the 31 houses will be 4 bedroomed detached properties with 2 Token 3/4
bedroom houses offered. They are also trying to con the council into
excepting that the previous planning permission is still valid because
of the few days work of:
1. Opening up of the access on to the highway and 2.the formation of
part of the estate road, before the expiry of the permission in 1992.
This is a mockery of the planning system - they claim that a road has
been built but there is nothing at all visible there.
It is ridiculous that 18 years after the original consent was granted
the company can claim that cutting a hole in the hedge is sufficient
grounds for saying that the application is still valid because the
work has been in progress. Over those 18 years there has been much
change in the area and also the planning criteria have changed to
include greater consideration of local community needs. The developers
claim that these changes should not apply to this development because
they were not applicable when the original consent was given."
Ms Clwyd added:
"It will be up to lawyers to see if the developers will get away with
such a con trick. What is certain is that the local community will not
accept this development."
