We are very concerned here in Llangain especially as we are so close to town & the English school at Johnstown. It is not our intention to create panic in the village & we reamin very positive. We have a new, dynamic headmistress with vison & determination and childrens numbers are increasing. We have a modern building with all sorts of activiteis going on for the community. Parents are 100% supportive of the school & none would wish their children to transfer to Johnstown.

Supportive of need to protest but have decided as the school is bottom heavy with many very young children not to take the children to the Rally. Llangain will still be well representaed. the petition forms have gone out to all parents & staff - and personnally we have alraedy over 100 names. We have secured the support of Menter Bro Myrddin through Iwan Evans (former pupil of Ysgol llangain)to strengthen our efforts in the community.

There is a Noson Llawen in the village tomorrow evening (19/11) and we intend to use the event to circulate notices of the Rali & collect more names on the petition. There are signs o the main road through the village advertising the Rali. We sent letters to the Director of Education , Alun Davies & the Leader of the County Council, Meryl Gravell, the day the Strategy for forst published. Neither have had the courtesy to acknlowledge that they have recevied the letter let alone reply.

We have received a reply from the Director of Education, Alun Davies, declining our invitation to visit Ysgol Llangin - no suprise there then. Also pointing out that now is not the time to raise comment & objections to the Stategy - we agree Mr Davies, the time for discussion & debate was before this stategy to destroy our communities was published

Im finding it very hard to rally up support in cilycwm. The community and parents alike seem to be taking the closure of the school an inevitable outcome to the modernisation of education.
People don't seem to realise the detrimental affect this will have on the community and the welsh language.
I find this unbelievable that so many people are prepared to lie back and let it happen without a fight.
So we have outside toilets!!!!! Whats more important where the toilets are or the fact that these small schools stop our community's from dying and our children from becoming statistics in classs of 35-40.

I sympathise with your problems in Cilycwm -if only this issue raised the same passions as hunting with dogs - whichever side of that debate you may be on!

We have managed to collect close on 300 signatures in Llangain but only through the efforts of a handful of people. A few former pupils of Ysgol Llangain, now in Bro Myrddin, have knocked on every door in the village - well done to them. Everyone sympathises but I dont think appreciate the implications.

300 signatures in Llangain is just superb. Well done! If we can get this amount from every village where a school is under threat we are looking at 10,000 signatues :-) Maybe a more realistic figure by the rally date is a few thousand, but we must aim high!

Remember that the petitions need to be returned by 03/12/04 so that the signatures can be counted. They will be presented to the Council during the Rally!

The children, Parents friends & staff of Ysgol Llangain have collected 702 names so far. We are quite overwhelmed by the support - thank you to everyone. As far as we are aware only two people have declined to sign!

We had a good turn out at the meeting and everyone is intent on sending letters and emails to all the councilors. We have to try and change councillors minds before the vote next wednesday.

Llangain is to be commended for setting a benchmark for other communities.Cymdeithas has asked for a six-month full public consultation period before the Plan is discussed by full council. Is any Board Member,Party or councillor brave enough to call for this to be done on behalf of the people of Sir Gar, so that democracy is seen to be fully served?
