Mae Plaid Cymru yn gwrthwynebu'r polisi unffurf newydd o gau bron a bod pob ysgol â llai na 50 o blant, ac yn gwrthwynebu niweidio sawl ysgol fwy gyda chynigion i gau. Mae'n rhaid i addysg ein plant fod yn ganolog i bob polisi newydd. Rhaid cydnabod record addysgol ardderchog Sir Gâr a bod hyn o ganlyniad yn rhannol i'r cysylltiad agos gyda'r gymuned leol y mae'r ysgol yn ei gwasanaethu. Gall y cysylltiad hwn gael ei golli gyda chau ysgolion. Felly, dylid ystyried unrhyw gynigion yng nghyswllt y gymuned mae'n gwasanaethu a gyda chydsyniad y gymuned honno.

Ni ddylid cael polisi unffurf ar gyfer pob ysgol fel y mae'r weinyddiaeth Llafur/Annibynol yn ei gynnig yn eu Strategaeth Moderneiddio Addysg. Nid yw Plaid Cymru yn dweud NA i gau unrhyw ysgol ar unrhyw adeg. Ond rhaid ymchwilio i opsiynau eraill yn gyntaf. Y mae'n anffodus fod y Cynllun Moderneiddio Addysg yn anwybyddu'r opsiwn o ffedereiddio, trefniant sy'n gweithio'n llwyddiannus mewn rhai rhannau o Sir Gâr. Os penderfynir nad oes posib cynnal ysgol, yna dylid gosod y strwythurau a'radnoddau yn eu lle i alluogi adfywiad cymunedol.

Mae Plaid Cymru yn cydnabod yr angen am adnoddau ychwanegol ac yn croesawu'r buddsoddiad ychwanegol a gynigir ar gyfer ein hysgolion cynradd ac eilradd. Er hynny, nid arian ddylai fod y prif ystyriaeth y tu ol i'r cynllun addysg newydd. Ansawdd ein haddysg, ansawdd bywyd y disgyblion ac ansawdd bywyd ein cymunedau ddylai fod flaenaf.

Plaid Cymru opposes the new policy of the blanket closure of virtually all schools with less than 50 pupils and opposes the blighting of many larger schools with closure proposals.The education of our children must be central to all new policies. It must be recognised that Carmarthenshire has an excellent record of educational acheievment and that this process is aided through close contact with the local community that the school serves. This contact can be lost with the closure of schools. Therefore any proposals must be considered in the context of the community it serves and with the consent of that community.

There should not be a one size fits all policy as put forward by the Labour Ind administrations new Modernising Education Plan. Plaid is not saying NO to the closure of any schools at any time. But other options should be explored first. It is a matter of regret that the MEP ignores the option of federation, an arrangement that is working successfully in some parts of Carmarthenshire. If a school is recognised to be unsustainable, then structures and resources must be put in place to enable community regeneration.

Plaid Cymru recognises the need for additional resources and welcomes the additional proposed investment into our primary and secondary schools. However money should not be the driving force behind this new education plan. It is the quality of our education, the quality of life of the pupils and the quality of life of our communities that should be paramount.
